  1. Participants will demonstrate an understanding of the key principles of early literacy development.
  2. Participants will be able to design and implement literacy-rich environments within childcare centers, including creating engaging learning spaces, selecting appropriate literacy materials, and fostering a culture of reading and storytelling
  3. Participants will develop strategies for supporting staff professional development in literacy instruction, including providing training on effective literacy practices, integrating literacy across the curriculum, and promoting collaborative learning among educators.
  4. Participants will learn strategies for engaging families in literacy promotion, including establishing partnerships with parents, providing resources and tips for supporting literacy at home, and organizing family literacy events within the center.

Juggling the chaos and charm of being a mom to two little humans, she stumbled into a career in Early Childhood Education—thanks to her family for that unexpected plot twist. With a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership, specializing in Early Childhood Education, Sammantha adds a touch of academic flair to her endeavors and has a passion for connecting the book smarts of early childhood education with the fun she believes working everyday in ECE should be.

Sarah Steffen

Sarah Steffen, a U.S. Air Force veteran, shifted to ECE In 2014 after pursuing her bachelors in early childhood education/development. With roles spanning from preschool teacher to curriculum designer and IT manager, she holds expertise in education and technology. She is a proud mom to two boys on the autism spectrum. She spends her free time coaching youth soccer and volunteering at her children’s school.
